Thankfulness Tree Activity

Materials Needed:

  • Paper or felt tree (or a few branches placed in a vase)
  • Cut-out leaves in fall colors
  • Markers or crayons
  • Velcro dots or tape

Instructions:

  1. Introduce the Concept of Thankfulness: Talk with the child about what it means to be thankful. You can prompt them with examples like family, friends, or favorite activities and toys.
  2. Build Mands and Language Skills: Ask the child to identify or label things they’re thankful for and write them on the leaves together. Each time they name something, reinforce it with praise, and help them attach it to the tree.
  3. Practice Fine Motor Skills: Encourage the child to pick up leaves, use markers, and place the leaves on the tree. Use Velcro dots to make this process easy and interactive.
  4. Use the Tree for Positive Reinforcement: Throughout November, add to the tree whenever the child expresses gratitude or completes a task. This visual reminder reinforces positive behaviors and language skills!
