Introducing Music in Therapy with Gina Bowser
At Epicenter ABA, we’re excited to introduce music therapy into our program offerings! Thanks to Gina Bowser, Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), we’ve launched the Kindergarten Readiness Group at our Warrensville Heights clinic, incorporating music therapy into 1:1 ABA Therapy home sessions as well. Gina’s music-based approach helps children not only enjoy learning but also make significant progress in key developmental areas.
Music Therapy in the Kindergarten Readiness Group
Gina hosts a lively music group twice a week as part of our Kindergarten Readiness program. During these sessions, your child will sing, dance, and groove along with the group while working on important social skills. These classes also address other goals, such as:
- Imitation and singing along with Gina
- Taking turns and participating in group activities
- Self-regulation of emotions through music
- Choral responding, where kids respond together as a group
Each session is designed to maximize therapeutic benefits through a combination of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and music. And don’t worry—your child’s personal therapist will be there to support them during these classes, ensuring they gain the most out of each experience.
Preparing for Life Beyond Kindergarten
The benefits of our music group extend beyond preparing your child for kindergarten. The skills they develop can also help them participate in community activities, such as:
- Enjoying concerts in the park
- Dancing and singing along to music at home or while out shopping with family
- Attending live events like sports games or kids’ musicals at venues like Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse or the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
By practicing music in a supportive group setting, your child builds confidence and learns how to interact with the world in meaningful ways.
1:1 Music Therapy Sessions
For our younger children, Gina offers 1:1 music therapy as part of home-based ABA therapy. These weekly sessions focus on helping your child engage with songs, respond to musical cues, and develop foundational skills such as attending and imitating sounds or movements.
Music Skill of the Month
Each month, Gina focuses on a specific skill to enhance learning through music. This month, she’s working with the children on labeling emotions through the “Feelings Song,” helping them understand and express their emotions.
In the 1:1 home setting, Gina will use familiar songs like “Wheels on the Bus” to work on imitation skills, while also teaching animal names and sounds through fun animal songs.
