What Kinds of Questions Should I Be Asking My Potential Provider?
Question: I know I need to ask questions, but I don’t even know where to start. Do you have sample questions that might be helpful for me to use during my evaluation process?
Answer: There are some general and specific programming questions we recommend asking your potential provider to get a good idea if the ABA provider is a good fit for you and your child.
Before getting into programming specifics we recommend starting with general provider questions.
Example General Provider Questions
- What insurance do you accept?
- What funding/scholarships are you currently a provider for?
- Are your BCBA certified with the BACB and through the state?
Once you have established that an ABA provider fits your financial, and scheduling needs, more specific programming questions can be asked. Programming questions can help you gain more insight into what programming goals will look like and how your child will be evaluated throughout ABA therapy to ensure they are making progress.
Example Programming Specific Questions
- How does the BCBA determine goals for my child?
- How is my child’s progress evaluated?
- How much direct supervision do therapists receive from BCBAs weekly?
